the blues roots grow surprisingly deep in the finnish music scene. from this fertile ground rises singer emilia sisco, who debuts on timmion with her phenomenal single -don t believe you like that-. with her strong background in fusing blues, r&b and jazz, emilia apparently slips also nicely into the dark soulful grooves of cold diamond & mink. in -don t believe you like that- emilia sets herself into the role of a mistreated lover, who still tries to see a speck of hope in the doomed relationship. by dubbing herself, and accompanying the lyric with graceful harmonies, she succeeds in building a powerful beat ballad, that should appeal to the darker end of the dance floor. there s a special lane in history for soul music this understated. it s cool and intimate at the same time, like there s something dangerous lurking under the surface. so roll up something nice, if that s your thing, and hop along for the ride.

thom nagy, journalist and passionate musician, makes the ep -you don t know-, which we release digitally as well as vinyl, to something very special. two of the four tracks included on the ep, called -bloom- and -you don t know-, are due to him. the disc is refined with two remixes by dandara and arutani, who met each other through the basel-based label lokd. they created a wonderful remix of the track -you don t know-. last but not least, we can look forward to a remix of nagy s track -bloom- by madmotormiquel and fulltone.

chuck cissel, from tulsa, oklahoma, recoded just two albums in 1979 and 1982 respectively, both for arista at the time and reissued together on cd by expansion in 2014. he is best known in disco circles for ‘cisselin’ hot’, but over the last two decades has become renonwned for “don’t tell me you’re sorry” in northern and crossover soul circles. today it is his most sought after record, orignal copies worth £150. the track is also written about in richard searling’s new book “putting the record straight”.

slinger francisco, better known as the mighty sparrow, has a career that spans over 40 years and counting. he has entertained audiences across the globe and earned his rightful place as king of the calypso world by defeating every other competitor/pretender to his throne. i ve got you under my skin is a song written by cole porter in 1936. this song was performed by so many american singers, such as frank sinatra, shirley bassey, ella fitzgerald, dinah washington, the ravens, frankie valli and the four seasons. recorded at trinidad hilton hotel, sparrows version became a classic for calypso music lovers all over the world.

in the last two years, paul régimbeau had put his most personal and earliest musical project mondkopf in stand-by mode. the rich arrangement work that defined his sound wasn’t fitting his desire of simplistic intensity anymore. his different collaborations (autrenoir, violent magic orchestra with vampilla & pete swanson, foudre!, oiseaux-tempêtes) forced him to explore new aspects of playing electronic music like a regular band member. the young producer was experimenting being a musician and embracing the experience. but after a year without composing, things changed on the tragic night of november 13th.
on this very night, the parisian set up machines he had acquired in the last few months and started improvising what became the first song on his new album: “they fall, but you don’t”. since that moment, paul regularly spent nights experimenting and recording what he felt at the time. while previous records reflected months of fine-tuning, these songs represent the mood of one evening, one night, the ones when you surrender yourself to the melancholy of the moment. much like a diary, the album is a compilation of these moments that escape reality in a chaotic and dark year.
